Cops seize 65 pounds of pot from police dispatcher’s home

A North Carolina police dispatcher’s husband was arrested on Monday after cops seized 65 pounds of marijuana from their shared residence.

Blong Ly Vang, 34, and his wife, who has not been named, allegedly had $130,000 worth of marijuana in their Claremont home, according to WSOC.

The couple reportedly resided with two children under the age of 16, Fox46 reported.

Catawba County narcotics officers asked to search the home while investigating heavy drug traffic in the area.

Vang, and his wife, who worked for the Hickory police department, consented to a search until cops stumbled upon three pounds of weed.

After applying for a search warrant, officers searched the home a second time and found bundles of “high-grade” pot stashed in plastic containers in the bedroom. Also seized were a stolen gun from Georgia, a second weapon, digital scales, and vacuum sealers, police said.

The “knock and talk” lead to the largest marijuana seizure by Catawba County’s Drug Task Force this year, deputies told WBTV.

“An operation this size is not someone sitting around their home with a ‘smoke bag,’” Capt. Jason Reid said.

“This has a low-end street value of over $130,000. Our drug investigators continue to remain relentless on the distribution of controlled substances in our community,” he added.

Vang is charged with felony trafficking marijuana by possession, felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, felony possession of a weapon by convicted felon, and felony possession of a stolen firearm, according to a Catawba County Sheriff’s Office release.

He is being held at Catawba County Detention Facility on a $250,000 bond.

Vang’s wife is no longer an employee of the Hickory Police department and an investigation is reportedly underway. Police have not yet filed charges against her.
