You can be a homeowner for just over $1
Now you don’t have to choose between eating avocado toast and affording a mortgage.
Hundreds of abandoned homes in a remote Italian village are being sold for the bargain price of $1.20, according to a report.
Residents of Ollolai, located in the mountainous region of Barbagia on the Mediterranean island of Sardinia, are hoping to attract buyers interested in owning one of its charming stone-built abodes.
However, the dirt-cheap offer comes with a catch — the homes will need about $25,000-worth of remodeling, CNN reports.
The enterprising real estate plan aims to counteract Ollolai’s plummeting population. In just half a century, the town went from 2,250 to 1,300 inhabitants.
Retired builder Vito Casula transformed a two-story house into his home using environmentally friendly materials, and could not be more delighted.
“We live nearby and frequently visited Ollolai. Then one day my wife saw the ad in the newspaper. It was an opportunity,” Casula told CNN. “This quiet town is frozen in time. It offers a peaceful, healthy life.”
If your savings are sparse and you’re looking for a fixer-upper, this tiny town could be your dream come true.
