The feds are investigating international sports corruption and have issued subpoenas seeking information from some of the world’s major sports organizations — including FIFA, the International Olympic Committee and the US Olympic Committee.
Federal prosecutors based in Brooklyn are probing racketeering, money laundering and fraud charges related to two track and field world championship events and business execs involved with other top competitions, The New York Times reported.
The grand jury subpoenas were delivered this month and seek documents, testimony and financial records dating back to 2013, the paper reported.
Since then, the US won bids to host the 2021 track and field world championships in Eugene, Oregon, and the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
The subpoena did not explicitly name the Los Angeles Olympic bid, according to The Times.
The US Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of New York is leading the probe, and has also led investigations into FIFA, the governing body for world soccer.
That probe led to bribery and corruption charges against the organization.
