The MTA abruptly announced Wednesday night that it will not be accepting credit or bank cards at any of its subway MetroCard vending machine all this weekend.
From 11:45 p.m. Friday until to 5 a.m. on Monday, subway station vending machines won’t take plastic as they do a software upgrade.
Riders without a card will need cash to buy new ones.
“Plan ahead! Due to a scheduled system software upgrade, MetroCard vending machines may not be accepting credit or debit card purchases” this weekend, the MTA tweeted at 7:08 p.m., a mere 52 ½ hours ahead of the inconvenience.
City Council Speaker Corey Johnson wasn’t happy with the sudden announcement.
“Ummm, UNACCEPTABLE!” he tweeted at the MTA.
