A former Las Vegas teacher pleaded not guilty to having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student.
Renee Rine, 36, appeared in court Tuesday on multiple charges including attempted kidnapping and lewdness with a minor, news station KSNV reported.
The West Career and Technical Academy educator was hired in August 2015 and allegedly began a relationship with the student the same school year.
Classmates reportedly tipped off authorities after they saw sexually explicit messages and photos from the teacher on the student’s phone.
Rine was booked Friday at Clark County Detention Center, where she is being held on $50,000 bail.
The former math teacher faces an attempted kidnapping charge because she allegedly tried to lure the student to a hotel for sex. She also was charged with child abuse, sexual misconduct with people and unlawful contact with a minor.
School officials said Monday that the teacher was “removed from campus,” according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
“The safety of our students is the number one priority at West Career and Technical Academy,” the school said in a statement. “As always, we want to keep you informed of important issues happening within our school community.”
