Three lawyers representing a former campaign aide to Donald Trump told a federal court Thursday they would no longer represent him, Politico reported.
Attorneys Shanlon Wu, Walter Mack and Annemarie McAvoy wrote in a two-page motion that they would explain their decision to abandon the case against the ex-aide, Rick Gates, in papers filed under seal with the federal court in the capital.
“The document speaks for itself,” McAvoy told the Web site.
Gates’ remaining lawyer, Thomas Green, is an expert defense attorney with a record of negotiating plea deals with federal prosecutors for white collar defendants.
Gates was charged with money laundering and other financial crimes related to work with Paul Manafort, President Trump’s former campaign chairman, who was also indicted. Gates pleaded not guilty.
