A pregnant woman in Kansas reportedly was found murdered the day she was set to learn her unborn baby’s sex.
Police said Ashley K. Harlan, 23, moved earlier this month from New York City to the Olathe home where her body was discovered Tuesday afternoon, according to news station WDAF.
Friends said Harlan, who was about 20 weeks pregnant, moved into her grandfather’s house to be closer to the baby’s father, the Kansas City Star reported. She reportedly was scheduled to go for an ultrasound the day she was killed.
Authorities announced Wednesday they are investigating the case as a homicide, but no cause of death has been released.
“There’s no reason that I could possibly come up with that this would happen,” neighbor Millie Simon told WDAF. “It’s just horrible.”
The 23-year-old previously struggled with drug addiction problems, but turned her life around and got clean, according to friends.
“She’d been doing so well, working hard on her future,” her friend Kaitlin Beeton told the Kansas City Star.
Anyone with information about her death is asked to contact the Olathe Police Department at 913-971-6950.
