Four men — including two wanted fugitives — were arrested on after police pulled them over in Jersey City for neglecting to wear seat belts and discovered drugs and a gun in the car, a Port Authority Police Department spokesman said Sunday.
The four men were riding inside a grey Nissan Altima with Pennsylvania plates near the Jersey City entrance to the Holland Tunnel around 12:30 p.m. Saturday when police noticed the driver and front passenger were not wearing their seat belts and pulled them over.
Officers could smell marijuana as they approached the sedan, and allegedly found a loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson, four blue pills, marijuana and electronic cigarettes with THC residue inside the car, police said. Once the group was taken into custody, police learned that two of the men — Alexander Garcia, 22, and 27-year-old Angelo Ortega, had open arrest warrants in Lancaster County, Penn.
Garcia was charged as a fugitive from justice with toxic chemical possession for the purpose of intoxication. It is unclear what the outstanding warrant was for.
Ortega, also considered a fugitive from justice, was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a controlled substance. He was wanted for alleged witness intimidation with a handgun, cops said.
