Police stopped a sobbing man from plummeting into the Hudson River on Sunday morning in Manhattan, authorities said.
The 39-year-old man was wearing a bright red Javits Center uniform as he stood at the Pier 76 seawall near West 34th Street and 12th Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen around 10:15 a.m., photographs show.
Officers from the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit responded and spoke with the man, who through tears, threatened to hurt himself by jumping into the river, police said.
The distraught man, who is from White Plains, was taken to Bellevue Hospital for evaluation.
The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center is located across the street from Pier 76.
