He’s really leaning in to the whole “Evil Empire” thing.
Tom Brady looked more like a James Bond villain than a pro football player when he showed up to US Bank Stadium Sunday — where his oft-reviled New England Patriots will take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII — wearing a popped-collar peacoat and dark shades, social-media users joked ahead of the the big game.
Brady, who has been wearing a glove on his throwing hand since an injury in mid-January, strolled stone-faced into the stadium in Minneapolis hands ungloved Sunday, but all anyone seemed to talk about was his coat-and-glasses combo.
“Tom Brady is about to take off his coat, pick up a crowbar, and go toe-to-toe with James Bond on a gantry in an ICBM silo,” tweeted Damian Counsell.
Others cracked that the baby-faced, 40-year-old four-time Super Bowl MVP better resembled kids playing dress-up.
“*very obviously two kids in a trench coat* ‘Hi, I’m grown up athlete and husband of Gisele Bundchen Tom Brady,'” Ronan Farrow tweeted.
Tweeted Cullen Crawford: “And now…Your starting Quarterback…TILDA SWINTON TRYING TO NOT BE RECOGNIZED IN GREENWICH VILLAGE!”
The Patriots — dubbed by many the “evil Empire of the NFL” — were favored to win over the Eagles. Brady, 40, had five Super Bowl wins under his belt going in to Sunday’s game.
