SAVANNAH, Ga. — A Georgia teenager has been charged with the murder of a 12-year-old boy who died two days after he was critically wounded by gunfire at a funeral home.
Savannah police said in a news release Tuesday that 15-year-old Deion Micah Pinckney is now charged with murder. He was arrested Sunday on an aggravated assault charge.
Pinckney is accused of shooting John Cooksey Jr. at Bonaventure Funeral Home. It happened Saturday after the funeral of Ricky Jerome Boyd, who was killed last month by police sent to arrest him on a murder warrant.
Police said Cooksey died at a hospital Monday. It was not immediately known if Pinckney had an attorney.
Police have said they don’t believe they shooting was meant as retaliation for the slaying in which Boyd was charged.
