A second-grade teacher in Texas died of complications from the flu, according to school officials.
Heather Holland, a 38-year-old Bose Ikard Elementary teacher, was diagnosed with the flu Wednesday after falling sick earlier in the week, DFW-TV reported.
Holland, of Willow Park, was given a prescription for Tamiflu, a common flu medication, but her health continued to deteriorate, according to the news station.
The mom was admitted late Friday to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital.
She died Sunday at the hospital after going into septic shock, according to her family.
“She was a wonderful person,” her husband Frank Holland told DFW-TV.
He said that the 38-year-old had no previous health conditions before her diagnosis.
School officials notified parents of Holland’s death in a letter sent home, news station KTRK reported. The district said the school was deep cleaned Friday as part of the routine maintenance schedule.
