Back in the day, 333 Park Ave. South was the Tiffany Glass Building, which Louis Comfort Tiffany used as a glass-blowing studio from 1881 to 1905.
Since then, the Flatiron District building became home to creative types, including photographer and director Jerry Schatzberg. Celebs like Bob Dylan, Andy Warhol and the Beatles trekked there to be photographed by him.
Now a live/work unit owned by fashion photographer Andrew Matusik has just hit the market for $2.19 million. When Matusik bought it for $915,000 in 2013, he says he had no idea that the studio of his mentor, Schatzberg, was just across the hall.
Matusik then embarked on a gut renovation to transform the spread into a space that he’s dubbed Studio 333. It’s now a two-bedroom, two-bathroom with over 1,600 square feet, refinished original floors, exposed columns, floor-to-ceiling windows and 14-foot ceilings.
There’s also a chef’s kitchen with custom cabinets and marble counters. In a 2013 New York Times story, Matusik said he designed “every millimeter” of the apartment. The picture-perfect loft has been used for fashion and TV shoots as well as private dinners.
In the past few months, rapper 50 Cent shot a video here and James Franco filmed a digital short for a “Saturday Night Live” appearance.
