Obsessed. That’s how many women describe their attachment to Ulla Johnson’s effortless dresses. “This is my favorite outfit!” Jennifer Lawrence told Robin Roberts on “Good Morning America” after her breezy, striped Ulla number got a lot of love on Twitter. Fans of the brand also admire the designer’s low-key personal style, gorgeous family and magnificent Brooklyn townhouse.
A born-and-bred New Yorker, Johnson launched her self-funded fashion line in 2000. After stepping back for a few years to have three children with her husband, foundation director Zach Miner, she now sells her collections at fashion-forward stores and her own Bleecker Street boutique. Here, the 43-year-old shares with Alexa the flowers and fragrances that rock her rosy world:
“This hand-crocheted bag is one of my absolute favorite accessories from our pre-spring collection. It’s handmade in Peru and comes in my favorite shades of rose and ochre. I got every color!”
“I always have one with me to jot down thoughts and inspiration.”
“The perfect balance of practical and whimsical.”
“I love any and all of Joan Didion’s novels.”
“This is a superfun color and I use it every day to mark up corrections on line sheets, photo edits, etc.”
“I was recently given this as a gift by one of my best friends. The crystals are so beautiful and captivating and it smells incredible.”
“Nothing makes me happier than beautifully arranged flowers. Sarah Ryhanen at Saipua is such a talent and inspiration.”
“Joanna is the best. I try and go see her as regularly as I can, but when I can’t, this mask is instantly uplifting. Amazing after a red-eye or late night out.”
“My dear friend Becca Misner created this signature scent for our Bleecker Street boutique. It’s organic and wild-crafted, made with essential oils from Moroccan and Bulgarian roses, South Pacific sandalwood and Ruh Khus. Feminine and also mysterious.”
“I am obsessed with their long-form articles and the anecdotal city bits. My son and I fight over it each week when it arrives in the postbox.”
“I wear this necklace almost every day. I love Victorian jewelry, it’s so poetic. It’s strung on a chunky watch chain and contains images of my three kiddies.”
“I’m so in love with Scandinavian midcentury pottery.”
