Public schools will be closed in Nutley, New Jersey, on Friday after a threatening video was posted on Instagram, officials said.
Detectives have interviewed people who posted the footage and concluded there is no active threat, cops said.
But school and law enforcement officials still decided to keep students and staff off all campuses on Friday. The exact nature of the possible threat was not immediately disclosed.
“We have spoken to the individual that posted the video and detectives are in the process of speaking with all individuals from the video to ascertain further information,” according to a statement from the Nutley Police Department. “Preliminarily there doesn’t appear to be an active threat to any of the schools but we must finish this process.”
Nutley schools superintendent Julie Glazer said Friday’s shutdown will wipe out one of two more budgeted emergency closure days remaining in the academic calendar.
“Tonight, the district administration became aware of a security threat. The police are actively investigating,” she said in a statement late Thursday.
“As it gets later in the evening, we have decided to err on the side of safety and close schools [Friday].”
