Prominent dentist accused of strangling mom to death
A prominent Los Angeles dentist is accused of choking his mom to death in a ruthless bid to sink his teeth into a fortune, according to reports.
Daniel Simon Yacobi, 36, pleaded not guilty Wednesday in the slaying of his 67-year-old mom, Violet Yacobi, in her Beverly Hills home Oct. 10, according to Fox.
Daniel Yacobi’s sister discovered their mom’s body — unconscious and not breathing — and called 911, according to the station. The death was ruled a homicide by strangulation.
Physical and digital evidence soon led investigators to believe that Daniel Yacobi — who runs an elite dental practice, catering to well-heeled clients in the Bel Air area — killed his mother for “financial gain, ” law enforcement sources told NBC.
Just days after her death, the dentist posted a tribute to his mom on Facebook thanking her for “unrelenting and everlasting love.
“Violet Yacobi, the most loving grandmother, doting mother, thoughtful daughter, supportive sister, joyful aunty and truest friend – was taken too soon from us,” he wrote in the post, which has since been deleted, according to Fox.
“Anyone who had the chance to know her would agree, that she was radiant, affectionate, nurturing and kind.”
Yacobi was arrested and charged with one count of murder Monday and was denied bail Wednesday.
His lawyer, Trent Copeland, said cops nabbed the wrong person.
“No one’s perfect. No investigation is perfect,” Copeland said, according to CBS Los Angeles.
“I hope to prove that my client is innocent, and I hope to also prove this investigation was somehow flawed because, clearly, our view is that this is not the right person.”
Yacobi is due back in court March 19 for a preliminary hearing.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office declined to elaborate on his alleged attempt to benefit financially from killing his mom.
