When the Gevora Hotel opened in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Monday, it became the world’s tallest hotel.
Standing 1,170 feet tall, it just edged out the neighboring JW Marriott Marquis, the previous title holder, which is 3 feet shorter.
While Dubai hotels average 250 rooms, reports the tech science website Inverse, the four-star Gevora has 528 rooms on its 75 floors. It also has four health clubs, five restaurants and a rooftop pool that’s also the world’s highest swimming pool, topping Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands.
Surprisingly, the rates aren’t sky-high, Inverse reports: Rooms start at $163 a night, while neighboring hotels start at about $245 a night.
“We are going into the market at a rate slightly lower than the average around this area,” the hotel’s general manager, Jairaj Gorsia, tells the National. “Our guests are looking for a good bed, a good cup of coffee and convenience.”
