Cruz blamed violent episode on adoptive mom’s death

Accused mass murderer Nikolas Cruz blamed one of his violent outbursts just months before the Valentine’s Day massacre at a Florida high school on the recent death of his adoptive mother — and said the family that took him in would “gut” him, according to a new report.

Cruz admitted losing his temper to a 911 dispatcher after a fight with Rock Deschamps, whose mother, Rocxanne, took Cruz and his younger brother in following Lynda Cruz’s Nov. 1 death.

“Hi, I was just at [inaudible] and someone attacked me and they said they were going to gut me if I came back,” Cruz told the dispatcher Nov. 29 in the newly released 911 call, according to WPTV.

Cruz flew into a rage inside Rocxanne’s trailer home in Lantana after misplacing a photo of his dead mom and began throwing things and punching Rock. Rocxanne and Rock called 911 after kicking Cruz out, fearing he’d return with a gun he’d just purchased from Dick’s Sporting Goods.

The dispatcher asked Cruz, 19, where he was.

“I don’t know where I am. I’m new to the area,” Cruz said.

The dispatcher then asked him to explain what happened.

“I kind of got mad, and I started punching walls and stuff, and then a kid came at me and threw me on the ground, and he started attacking me, and he kicked me out of the house, and he said was going to gut me,” Cruz said.

He added that he believed there were guns inside the Deschamps home.

“You were just staying at this house and you got mad and you were punching things and then they came after you?” the dispatcher asked.

“Yeah. The thing is, I lost my mother a couple weeks ago. So, like, I’m dealing with a bunch of things right now,” Cruz calmly replied.

The dispatcher asked Cruz whether he was using drugs or alcohol that day. He told her no.

“You don’t have any weapons on you, do you?” she asked.

“No,” he replied.

Rocxanne, meanwhile, told the dispatcher they were worried Cruz would return armed with his new gun.

“He bought a gun about a week and a half ago and he gets it today so we think he’s going there now,” Deschamps said. “That’s all he wants is his gun and that’s all he cares about is his gun. He bought tons of bullets and I took them away from him.”

Deschamps said Cruz had displayed violent behavior before.

“He put the gun to the head of his brother before. This is not the first time, and he did that to his mom, and his mom died. It is not the first time that he put a gun on somebody’s head,” she told the dispatcher.

In a separate call to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Rock described Nikolas and his younger brother, Zachary, as two boys who were adopted by his mom.

“The 19-year-old, he’s obsessed with weapons, guns,” Rock said. “I’m positive he hid a weapon. I’m positive he hid a 9mm carbine in the back.”
