The Florida high school that was the scene of a massacre that left 17 people dead reopened Friday to teachers and staff members.
Staffers at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland were permitted to return to their classrooms and collect their belongings for the first time since the Feb. 14 bloodbath but were not required to return, NBC Miami reported.
All school staff will return Monday and Tuesday for planning days and students will resume classes Wednesday, from 7:40 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for the rest of the week.
Support personnel will be on hand Friday and Sunday, when a voluntary orientation will be held for students and parents.
The school’s freshman building — where Nikolas Cruz allegedly opened fire — will not be reopened. It will eventually be torn down and replaced with a new building and memorial. School officials in Broward County recently asked for more than $28 million in state funding for that project.
