A driver barricaded himself inside his car in Midtown early Monday and pulled out a knife before cops broke in and arrested him, police said.
Officers responded to a call of an emotionally disturbed person who had locked himself inside a black Volkswagen sedan on Park Avenue between East 56th and East 57th streets about 6:45 a.m., authorities said.
The man wouldn’t open his window or turn the engine off before suddenly pulling out a knife, passer-by Nick Falcone, 29, told The Post.
“All of a sudden you heard them yell, ‘Knife! Knife,'” said the Hoboken, NJ, resident, who works at a nearby construction site. “He was still inside. As he went to make a move — that’s when they broke in the window and tased him.”
Photographs show the officers on either side of the car smashing the windows to remove the man from the car and ultimately zap him, forcing him to the ground. He is later seen being led away on a gurney, with a wire from the Taser still dangling from his body.
The uncooperative man was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center for evaluation, police said. He is under arrest with charges pending.
