“Hey, Thomas. You suck, ya jackass.”
Justin Thomas had no patience for his Happy Gilmore-esque taunter at the Honda Classic on Sunday. After a fan rooted for Thomas’ tee shot on the 16th hole to “get in the bunker,” the golfer asked for him to be removed from the grounds.
“Who said that? … Was that you? Enjoy your day, buddy, you’re gone,” Thomas was heard saying on CBS’ microphones.
Thomas would go on to defeat Luke List in a playoff, continuing his rise as one of the top players in the game. One that fans would be wise not to cheer against.
Thomas said afterward that as he was approaching the tee box, a fan yelled, “I hope you hit it in the water.” And then came the bunker taunt.
“I was like, ‘OK, I’ve had enough,'” Thomas told reporters later. “I just turned around and asked who it was, and he didn’t want to say anything, now that I had actually acknowledged him. So he got to leave a couple holes early.
“I don’t want to kick someone out just to kick them out. It’s just so inappropriate. We’re out here trying to win a tournament.”
