New York City FC will be without forward Jo Inge Berget for two-to-three weeks after he picked up an injury in preseason.
Berget, 27, suffered a right quad strain during NYCFC’s preseason pit stop in Los Angeles earlier in February, the team said.
NYCFC signed Berget on a free transfer from Swedish giant Malmo on Jan. 19. He spent the last three seasons at the club along with teammate Anton Tinnerholm, who also signed with NYCFC this offseason.
Berget was expected to be a backup option for David Villa, while offering support wide on the wing.
The Norwegian led Malmo in scoring with 10 goals last season.
NYCFC open its season on the road against Sporting Kansas City on Sunday night.
