De Blasio headed to Atlanta convention on taxpayer dime

Mayor de Blasio and three aides will be jetting to Atlanta for 24 hours on Friday to attend a retail workers national convention — with taxpayers footing the bill.

In addition to addressing an expected 400 members of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union on Saturday, Hizzoner is expected to meet with Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and other local leaders.

City officials said the trip counts as government business because RWDSU has 45,000 members in New York City and it’s the mayor’s job to hear their perspective.

“This is a union with a large body of hard-working members in New York City,” said City Hall spokesman Eric Phillips. “The Mayor is going to speak directly to their concerns and to the broader attack on organized labor and working families across the nation.”

The estimated tab of the 1-day trip is $2,000, officials said.

The mayor has said he plans to travel more in his second term to advocate on national issues that impact the city.
