Evil Grayson Allen emerges just in time for March Madness

With a college basketball landscape in upheaval, coaches indefinitely gone after damning phone conversations and seemingly everyone’s eligibility in question, the world can rely on Grayson Allen controversy.

Duke’s 34th-year senior, or perhaps fourth-year, again has entered the limelight and handed hoops fans a microscope to check out his tripping latest.

To cap off a surprisingly incident-free season, the most loathed player in college basketball emerged out of his slumber with a pair of questionable plays in which his leg flailed suspiciously at an opponent’s leg. Is the most contentious tripper at it again?

During the Blue Devils’ 64-63 loss in Blacksburg to Virginia Tech, Hokies guard Chris Clarke was dribbling upcourt when Allen’s already-outstretched foot bumped into his. Whether there was an extra Allen effort to initiate that contact is debatable.

Keep those eyes squinted. The 22-year-old, who scored 22 and added six rebounds and three assists for No. 6 Duke, also was accused of some extra leg flapping in a scrum for a loose ball. Guard Justin Robinson already was on the floor when Allen’s leg swayed, but it still appeared to be an unnatural leg swipe.

Allen is back, and just in time for March Madness.

Last year was the height of Grayson and Hyde, when his serially tripping antics led coach Mike Krzyzewski to suspend him indefinitely (which turned into a single game).
