A Manhattan mom who was nearly paralyzed by a falling tree while she walked with her children in Central Park has filed a $200 million suit against the city.
Anna Monoky alleges that the Central Park Conservancy and others failed to properly care for the 75-foot elm tree, and claims in the Manhattan Supreme Court papers that she’ll now have to live with “paralysis threatening injuries” forever.
The towering tree fell on the mom as she strolled with her three sons, ages 6 weeks old to 4 years old, last August near Central Park West and West 62nd Street.
The 6-week-old was strapped to her chest as the tree cracked and collapsed on her.
“This tree had been neglected for years and had clear and obvious signs that it was decayed and could collapse at any moment,” the suit reads.
Monoky told ABC’s “Good Morning America” that she filed the lawsuit to save others.
“We want to make sure these families are protected,” she said, as she sat wearing a chunky neck brace next to her husband, Curt Goldman. “No one should have to go what we went though.”
“We will review the case and respond accordingly,” a Law Department spokesman said.
The conservancy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
