Police detained a man in connection with the shooting of an 8-year-old girl in Brooklyn — but he was later released without charges, authorities said.
The suspect was apprehended on Monday night, just hours after he the young girl was struck as she was sitting in a white Ford passenger van that had pulled up to a red light on East 83rd Street in Canarsie on Monday around 5:35 p.m., police said.
Police believed he was involved in an argument in front of a nearby Popeye’s chicken restaurant when he allegedly pulled out a gun and “fired an unknown number of rounds,” said Deputy Inspector Frank Giordano.
But he was later determined not to be the shooter.
The child was taken to Brookdale Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
