Stanford football coach crashes ‘The Bachelor,’ internet explodes

Arie Luyendyk Jr. has top billing on “The Bachelor” this season, but he wasn’t the star attraction on Monday night’s episode.

Following a romantic night inside the Fantasy Suite in Peru with one of his three remaining girlfriends, the former racer was greeted by gal pal Becca Kufrin’s ex-boyfriend, Stanford football’s sports performance coach Ross Jirgl.

“I know the show ends in a proposal and for as long as I thought about her, that’s my proposal to give her,” Jirgl told Luyendyk. “She’s the love of my life, I want to marry her. She’s the only thing on my mind the past year.”

Spoiler alert: Jirgl’s reunion with Kufrin did not end well.

“I don’t want to go back to that,” Kufrin said. “I still wish you the best, but it ended.”

After leaving his flame of seven years behind in South America, Jirgl had several shoulders to cry on, thanks to #BachelorNation.

“Ross4BACHELOR,” one fan commented on Jirgl’s Instagram page.

“Arie is a goon and Ross is like swoon,” another gushed.

“Arie looked like a weasel next to Ross! Real man vs soy boy lol,” wrote another.

A former linebacker at Minnesota State, Jirgl joined Stanford’s coaching staff last season after one year at South Alabama, where he worked with the men’s basketball team. He also served as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Indiana State for two years. He previously interned for both California and Stanford.

As for another stint on reality TV, ABC will be in the hunt for another “Bachelor” as Luyendyk’s journey comes to an end next week.
