You don’t need luck to find an Irish watering hole in New York City.
The Big Apple is overflowing with more Irish pubs per capita than any city in the US — and is the fifth best place to party on St. Patrick’s Day, according to a new WalletHub analysis of 200 American cities.
There are 203 Irish bars and eateries throughout the city — or about .035 per person, according to the credit-scoring website.
Midtown boasts the most blarney, with 68 bars and eateries. And the best Erin-go-bar-hopping square block is West 45th and 46th streets, between 6th and 7th Avenues, where five Irish pubs will quench your thirst.
“Irish pubs are one of the few service industry spots that you can never have enough of,” said Sean Reilly, 26, manager of O’Briens on 46th Street. “There’s plenty of camaraderie and business to go around.”
Reilly believes New York is the metropolis of Irish public houses because locals crave the cozy feeling of the taprooms.
“They make people feel welcome and warm on the inside — kind of like how it would be back in Ireland,” said Reilly.
About 4.4 percent of The Big Apple’s population is of Irish descent, according to the site.
Overall, the city was ranked the fifth best place to celebrate March 17th this year — behind No. 1 Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia and Buffalo — scoring high in categories like St.Patrick’s Day traditions, weather forecast, safety and accessibility. The site graded cities by comparing scores in 17 different St.Patrick’s Day-related categories.
The city was best in “fewest DUI Related Fatalities” during the month of March last year.
