The story of the Nxivm sex cult — which allegedly branded women and forced them into slavery — may be coming to a TV near you.
The production company Annapurna Television, which has produced series for Hulu and HBO, has gained rights to a 2017 New York Times exposé on the cult called “Inside a Secretive Group Where Women Are Branded,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The company would like to adapt the report for a one-hour, fictionalized, scripted series, the Reporter said.
“Smallville” TV actress Allison Mack has been accused of being one of the cult’s leaders and charged with sex-trafficking. She was released on bond from Brooklyn federal court on Tuesday.
Mack allegedly helped recruit women into sex slavery for cult leader Keith Raniere.
