President Trump used his Twitter account on Monday to suggest he should meet North Korean President Kim Jong Un at the Peace House on the border separating the Koreas rather than a “third party country.”
“Numerous countries are being considered for the MEETING, but would Peace House/Freedom House, on the Border of North & South Korea, be a more Representative, Important and Lasting site than a third party country? Just asking!,” the president wrote to his 51 million followers.
The Peace House in Panmunjom was the setting on Friday for the historic summit between Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in where they vowed to rid the peninsula of nuclear weapons and declared that years of hostility would end.
During the meeting, Kim became the first North Korean leader to cross into South Korean territory when he shook hands with Moon and stepped across a concrete slab that marks the border.
Trump is expected to meet with Kim in May or early June.
A number of locations have been considered, including Mongolia and Singapore.
