A man was threatened with his life in Manhattan by a stranger pretending to be a police officer, authorities said Thursday.
The 58-year-old was walking near Platt Street and William Street in the Financial District on the night of May 11 when the unknown man — wearing a backpack, plain clothes, an “NYC” baseball cap, but no police identification — approached him and started a conversation.
The chat quickly escalated, with the man falsely identifying himself as a police officer and making threats.
“I’m going to kill you,” he told the victim, before running off on William Street, according to cops.
Police are looking for the suspect, shown on surveillance photographs from the night of the altercation.
Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
