School bus overturns on NJ turnpike ramp to bridge

A packed school bus overturned on the New Jersey Turnpike near the Goethals Bridge on Thursday, injuring multiple people, authorities said.

The yellow bus tipped onto its side near the on-ramp to the Staten Island-bound lane of the span just before 4 p.m., according to the New Jersey State Police.

Dozens of kids were aboard the bus at the time of the accident, officials said.

Passengers included about 40 students from the Mevakshei Hashem Yeshiva in Borough Park, Brooklyn, according to Yeshiva World News.

Officials said all of the injuries appeared to be minor.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether the injured were children, adults, or both.

Photos of the incident’s aftermath posted to Yeshiva World show adults helping to pull students from the back door, side door, and roof hatch of the flipped-over bus.

Another shot shows what appears to be one of the bus’s wheels and part of the axle lying several feet from the bus itself.

The bus appeared to be traveling as part of a convoy, as about six other buses were stuck in snarled traffic behind the overturned vehicle, according to NBC New York.

It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the bus to overturn.
