The school of J.R.: What not to do.
J.R. Smith got criticized by LeBron James, went viral and is now being made into the ultimate example for all sporting teams — not just basketball.
Smith’s Game 1 brain freeze, when he appeared to lose track of the score and dribble out the clock in a tie NBA Finals game, has found its way into the Chicago Bears’ film room.
“We actually watched that the next day as a team and tried to learn from [the situation],” quarterback Mitchell Trubisky told NFL.com Wednesday. “I was having a hard time watching it twice again.
“It just goes to show you everyone gets caught up in the moment, even in the biggest of lights. But you always got to know the situation.”
Smith didn’t, and the Cavaliers lost in overtime of Game 1 before dropping Games 2 and 3. Trubisky watched the footage and, mentally, he was processing how he would handle the situation. Better than Smith did.
“I was calling a timeout,” Trubisky said. “As soon as I saw [Smith] dribble backwards, I was calling a timeout.”
