A New Jersey police officer and his pal have been indicted on assault charges in the pizza-shop beatdown of actress Lindsay Lohan’s cousin in Boston, according to authorities.
A grand jury on Tuesday charged Daniel Hunt, a cop in Haddon Heights, and Ian Salerno with aggravated assault and battery for pummeling Kevin Lohan at a Domino’s Pizza back in January.
Prosecutors say Hunt, who was off duty at the time, confronted and shoved Lohan, 24, at the shop in Kenmore Square early Jan. 19. A brawl broke out and as members of both of the men’s groups tried to break up the fight, Salerno, 29, of Philadelphia, allegedly came from behind and sucker-punched Lohan in the jaw.
Lohan, a grad student who played defense for Boston College’s hockey team, suffered serious injuries — he underwent surgery and had to have his jaw wired shut for three weeks. Metal plates were implanted in his jaw and cheek, prosecutors said.
Boston police obtained security camera footage and a receipt from a nearby bar where Hunt, Salerno and others were drinking prior to the attack. They also have social media photos and witness accounts.
Lohan, who was not named as the victim by prosecutors, was identified by the Boston Herald.
Lohan’s girlfriend told cops six to eight people swarmed the Domino’s and pushed their way to the front of the line, the Herald reported. That’s when “out of nowhere one of the suspects punched her boyfriend in the face and knocked him to the ground” before fleeing, police reports said.
At the time, Boston College said the 6-foot-5 Lohan, who was living in Chestnut Hill, was sidelined from play indefinitely.
The two men will be arraigned Aug. 1.
