The Nets officially signed the guy who led the NBA in rebounds off the bench. Now they just have to work on the starters.
Ed Davis, a 6-foot-10 forward/center who spent the past three of his eight NBA seasons in Portland, formally signed his one-year, $4.4 million free-agent deal with the Nets on Monday. Davis is one of seven new acquisitions by the Nets either through the draft, free agency or trade this offseason.
Davis’ 575 rebounds were the most by any NBA player off the bench in 2017-18. In 78 games, he averaged 5.3 points and 7.4 rebounds while shooting 58.2 percent from the field in 18.9 minutes per game.
Regarded as one of the premier big-man backups in the league, as well as a good locker-room guy, Davis was fifth in offensive rebound percentage. When word of his move to the Nets broke, Blazers guard C.J. McCollum tweeted “lost a real one.”
Davis, whose father Terry played 10 NBA seasons, also has spent time with Toronto, Memphis and the Lakers. He has averaged 6.6 points and 6.5 rebounds in his career.
