CBS chief Les Moonves accused of sexual misconduct

CBS bigwig Les Moonves is facing allegations of sexual misconduct, according to a new report.

The New Yorker is scheduled to publish an article by Ronan Farrow on Friday that accuses the 68-year-old of unwanted kissing and touching more than 20 years ago, as well as some more recent incidents, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The magazine wouldn’t comment on the piece to the reporter, but CBS said in a statement that it is “investigating claims that violate the Company’s clear policies” on “personal misconduct.”

“Upon the conclusion of that investigation, which involves recently reported allegations that go back several decades, the Board will promptly review the findings and take appropriate action,” the statement reads.

Shares of CBS Corp. tumbled 5.5 percent, to $54.37, midday on Friday after the news broke.

The report comes amid a bitter legal battle between the board and Shari Redstone, who is the controlling shareholder in both CBS and Viacom and wants to merge the two companies.

And the board’s statement suggests its members think the timing of the expose is fishy.

“The timing of this report comes in the midst of the Company’s very public legal dispute. While that litigation process continues, the CBS management team has the full support of the independent board members. Along with that team, we will continue to focus on creating value for our shareowners,” the statement continues.

Some within CBS suspect Redstone may have contributed information for the article, according to the Associated Press — but she strongly denied any involvement Friday.

“The malicious insinuation that Ms. Redstone is somehow behind the allegations of inappropriate personal behavior by Mr. Moonves or today’s reports is false and self-serving,” a rep said in a statement to the Reporter.

“Ms. Redstone hopes that the investigation of these allegations is thorough, open and transparent.”

Moonves, who joined CBS in 1995, has been married to network presenter Julie Chen since 2004, and was married to Nancy Wiesenfeld from 1978 through 2003.

CBS News fired veteran TV host Charlie Rose last year after eight women accused him of sexual harassment.
