Dish Network offers subscribers credit for pulled Univision channels
The deadlock between Univision and Dish Network doesn’t appear to be letting up.
Dish will offer a $5-a-month credit to DishLATINO and Sling Latino package subscribers beginning Aug. 1, the satellite TV company said Monday.
A carriage dispute between Dish and Univision has blocked the broadcaster’s content — including its UniMás and Galavisión channels — from Dish’s 13 million subscribers since July 1. Sling customers are also missing all Univision content.
“While we’ve been available, responsive and have made a best effort to negotiate, Univision appears to be forcing an impasse,” said Erik Carlson, Dish president and chief executive officer. “We strongly believe that, in light of Univision’s departure from the negotiation table and from the Dish lineup, it’s the right thing to offer a credit to our DishLATINO and Sling Latino customers.”
The credit will show up on Dish bills starting with the August cycle.
A rep from Univision responded to the refund, offering: “With this announced refund, Dish recognizes what its Hispanic customers already know to be true: Without Univision networks and local stations, there is no ‘DishLATINO’ and certainly no ‘Best of Spanish’ on Sling TV.”
