Brent Musburger welcomes AJ McCarron’s wife to Raiders

Brent Musburger is calling football games, making headlines with his comments about women, and Jon Gruden is coaching. What year is this?

Musburger, the new voice of the Raiders’ radio broadcast, turned back the clock Sunday night, after Oakland traded for a quarterback with whom he has a weird history.

“Welcome A.J. McCarron to the Raider family,” the 79-year-old wrote. “Can’t wait for the ‘beautiful’ Mrs. McCarron to join us in Oakland.”

McCarron moving from the Bills to Raiders on Saturday reunites the former Alabama star, his wife and the legendary broadcaster. Musburger forever will be linked with “Mrs. McCarron,” who was Katherine Webb in 2013, when she watched then-boyfriend McCarron and the Crimson Tide beat Notre Dame in the championship game.

During the game, the TV camera panned to the former Miss Alabama, whom Musburger openly ogled.

“When you’re a quarterback at Alabama, you see that lovely lady there?” Musburger said. “She does go to Auburn but she also is Miss Alabama and that’s AJ McCarron’s girlfriend. … You quarterbacks, you get all the good-looking women. What a beautiful woman. Wow.”

Webb-McCarron took the comments and the attention well — ESPN offered an apology that she said wasn’t needed. When Musburger originally retired from broadcasting in early 2017, she sent him a congratulations.

“Cheers Brent, you were good to me,” she wrote on Twitter.
