Parkland victim's dad says Brett Kavanaugh 'turned his back' on him

WASHINGTON – The father of a Parkland shooting victim approached Judge Brett Kavanaugh during a break at his confirmation hearing Tuesday in a dramatic moment caught on camera.

Fred Guttenberg, whose daughter died in the massacre, tried to introduce himself to Kavanaugh — but it was not clear if the Supreme Court nominee heard him.

“[I] put out my hand to introduce myself as Jaime Guttenberg’s dad,” father Fred Guttenberg said.

“He pulled his hand back, turned his back to me and walked away. I guess he did not want to deal with the reality of gun violence.”

A video showed that Kavanaugh turned away from the grieving dad with an outstretched hand and left the hearing room escorted by security.

A White House rep said Kavanaugh wasn’t trying to ignore Guttenberg.

“As Judge Kavanaugh left for his lunch break, an unidentified individual approached him,” spokesman Raj Shah said.

“Before the Judge was able to shake his hand, security had intervened.”

The grieving dad’s daughter, 14-year-old Jamie Guttenberg, was among the students killed in a mass shooting Feb. 14 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
