MoviePass rolls out sneaky new plan for lapsed subscribers

Just when you thought you were out, MoviePass is pulling former subscribers back in.

The cinema subscription service is re-enrolling customers who had canceled their memberships.

In an e-mail to users who had let their plans expire when MoviePass changed from a movie-a-day service to the far more limited three-a-month deal, the struggling company wrote that it was inviting them to test a new “unlimited” plan.

Users who didn’t read the whole e-mail, however, would miss the part near the end where MoviePass said that it was automatically enrolling them in the $9.95-per-month plan, and that they have until Oct. 4 to opt out, or billing will begin.

MoviePass’ Twitter mentions are flooded with angry complaints from customers upset over the underhanded move, with one user calling the company’s management “crooks” and another decrying it as “SHADY!”

In a statement to The Post, a MoviePass representative said that the offer was only for select subscribers, blaming them for sending “conflicting indications” over whether they wanted to remain with the service over the past few months.
