High school senior class performs Nazi salute in prom photo

These numbskulls must not have paid attention in history class.

A Wisconsin school district has apologized after photos were posted to social media of dozens of male high school seniors giving the Nazi salute.

“The photo of students posted to #BarabooProud is not reflective of the educational values and beliefs of the School District of Baraboo. We are investigating and will pursue any and all available and appropriate actions, including legal, to address,” the Baraboo School District tweeted on Monday.

The post depicted roughly 50 male students from Baraboo High School’s class of 2019 — nearly all of them white — giving the one-armed “Sieg Heil” salute as they posed for a prom picture.

“We even got the black kid to throw it up. #barabooproud,” reads the since-deleted tweet, posted to the @gobaraboo “parody” account on Veteran’s Day Sunday.

The photo shows most of the kids are smiling and laughing, while just a handful seem disturbed by their classmates’ abhorrent behavior. The shameful display generated massive outrage as it spread across social media.

“This is BEYOND sickening,” tweeted Carly Sidey, who first drew attention to the picture online.

“It is so hard to find words…,” the Auschwitz Memorial Museum tweeted Monday. “This is why every single day we work hard to educate. We need to explain what is the danger of hateful ideology rising. Auschwitz with its gas chambers was at the very end of the long process of normalizing and accommodating hatred.”

The prom photographer pulled the photos from her website after backlash — but bizarrely claimed she was the victim.

“Due malevolent behavior on the part of some in society; this page has been modified. It is too bad that there are those in society who can and do take the time to be jerks; knowingly and willingly to be jerks!” wrote photographer Elizabeth Gust on her Wheel Memories photography website, adding: “To anyone that was hurt I sincerely apologize.”

The Baraboo Police Department tweeted that it is “assisting the Baraboo School District with their investigation into this matter.”
