Will Ferrell’s iconic “Anchorman” character is coming back for a two-season, 12-episode comedy series called “The Ron Burgundy Podcast.”
The podcast will launch on the iHeartRadio Podcast Network and will be available to listeners in early 2019.
It will be co-produced by iHeartRadio and Funny or Die, the comedy site founded by Ferrell, Adam McKay, Michael Kvamme and Chris Henchy.
The news was announced Monday on the @BurgundyPodcast Twitter page, where the funnyman had a comical exchange with CNN’s Don Lemon.
Ferrell tweeted: “Hello, @donlemon! It’s your good friend, Ron Burgundy. Don’t know if you heard, but I recently had my White House press credentials pulled. They accused me of eating too many hot dogs in the press break room.”
Lemon responded: “Mr. Burgundy, I gotta be honest I don’t remember ever meeting you and frankly I’m a little shocked you have White House press credentials. I know I stand for a free press and all but just not so sure you should have those credentials.”
Ferrell revealed he was starting his own podcast: “Don, I am laughing out loud! So about that favor: the media landscape is changing so fast and I DO NOT CARE FOR IT. That’s why I’m starting a “podcast!”
“Have you heard of “podcasts?” They’re hotter than Jane Fonda’s workout tape! Anywho, I need help getting the word out about mine. What do you say best friend?”
Lemon simply replied: “Please do not start a podcast and stop contacting me.”
Conal Byrne, president of the iHeartPodcast Network, said of the podcast: “To be honest, we don’t want to do this podcast and we just want to get this announcement over with as soon as possible.”
“Ron quite literally forced us into making this podcast with him, first calling us more than one hundred times in a single day and then proceeding to actually show up at our doorstep and physically force himself into our studios. We do hope the podcast is well-received, but in the meantime, we hope by agreeing to do the announcement he will stay away.”
It has not been announced if Ferrell, who played Burgundy in “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy in 2004” and in its 2013 sequel, “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” will appear as the legendary character for the podcast.
An official trailer will be released in the next few months on iHeartRadio.
The film franchise also featured Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, David Koechner and Fred Willard.
