Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez got some sympathy from an unlikely source after whining on Twitter about a story she claimed was false — chronic mainstream media critic Donald Trump Jr.
“Welcome to our world… You think that’s bad? Imagine what it’s like when they actually hate you,” the conservative first son wrote Wednesday on Twitter.
It came a day after the progressive Ocasio-Cortez tweeted her gripes about a story in Politico that said she wanted to launch a primary from the left against fellow New York Democratic Rep. Hakeem Jeffries.
“One disappointment about DC is the gossip that masquerades as ‘reporting.’ This story has: Not a SINGLE named or verifiable source. Only ONE on-the-record comment, which is a denial. My dad had a name for junk articles like this: ‘Birdcage lining,'” she wrote.
Politico, citing “a person who has discussed the project with Ocasio-Cortez and her team,” as well as “a second person,” said she had recruited an African-American woman to challenge Jeffries. He was just elected to replace Rep. Joe Crowley — whom Ocasio-Cortez beat in a stunning primary upset — as caucus chairman, the No. 5 Democratic leadership position in the House.
Ocasio-Cortez’s spokesman denied that she had recruited an anti-Jeffries candidate.
“We’re not looking at recruiting people to run campaigns, we’re looking at building a congressional staff,” Ocasio-Cortez spokesman Corbin Trent told the website.
