A dad flipped out on security guards at an upper Manhattan benefits center Tuesday, leaving one guard with a broken hand, as he yelled, “This ain’t f–king Brooklyn!” — a nod to a recent welfare office dust-up that ended with cops yanking a baby from his screaming mom, according to the NYPD.
Davaun Fournillier, 27, was at the city Human Resources Administration’s Dyckman Jobs Center in Inwood on Tuesday trying to resolve an issue with his benefits when he lost it on the worker trying to help him, according to an internal report obtained by The Post.
Fournillier shoved a computer off the worker’s desk and started punching it to bits as the HRA worker called for facility peace officers, the report said.
The NYPD was also called to the Tenth Avenue center, and an HRA security captain tried to calm down Fournillier and convince him to let EMS look at his bloodied hand, the report said.
“F–k EMS!” the raging man shouted, according to the report.
The HRA guards then offered Fournillier one last chance to walk out of the building without being arrested, but he refused to go because his young daughter was sitting in a waiting area.
“This is not Brooklyn and my child’s in the waiting area!” he bellowed, apparently referring to the case of Jazmine Headley, whose 1-year-old son was ripped from her arms by NYPD cops after a run-in with HRA officers in a Boerum Hill center earlier this month. “This ain’t f–king Brooklyn!”
“I’m punching somebody in the face if I don’t get services,” Fournillier allegedly added.
By this point, the NYPD had arrived, but was unwilling to take custody of Fournillier’s daughter or call the child’s mother to come pick her up, the report said.
“We don’t know what to do, do we call ACS or not?” the cops said, according to the report.
The child was led away from the volatile situation, and the HRA captain tried to handcuff Fournillier.
But the rampaging man grabbed the captain’s right hand and twisted it until it broke in three different places, said Derek Jackson, safety director of Teamsters Local 237, the union that represents HRA guards.
Despite his injuries, the captain and a second guard wrestled Fournillier to the floor and cuffed him.
He’s now facing a slew of charges, including assault on a peace officer. Fournillier was held on $15,000 bond over $5,000 cash bail at his Wednesday arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court.
In the wake of both Tuesday’s incident and the Jazmine Headley debacle — which saw two HRA officers suspended and the agency’s guards blamed by everyone from Mayor Bill de Blasio to the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association police union — HRA guards are “terrified,” said Jackson.
