A 2-year-old boy from Australia was killed after a piece of farming hardware toppled on him.
Darcy Membrey was in a storage shed with his father when a fertilizer spreader fell from a tractor, trapping him.
The toddler’s family called for help and desperately tried to free him from underneath the equipment.
Medics arrived at the scene soon after, but Darcy could not be saved, according to The Age.
The spreader was being removed from a tractor before the tragedy happened, The Guardian reported.
The boy’s grandfather, Bruce Membrey, said no one was driving the tractor when the tot was killed.
Membrey described his grandson as cheerful and “a real country kid.”
“He is just a happy-go-lucky 2-year-old that loved being around the farm,” Membrey said. “He was at the farm every day of his life. He liked machinery, fixing things.”
Membrey said his family is very close but moving forward “won’t be easy.”
The accident happened on the family’s farm in Warrnambool, Victoria, about 150 miles from Melbourne.
Authorities said a coroner’s report has not been released yet.
