New York’s Finest helped her ring in the New Year on a happy note.
For the second time in just over a month, cops retrieved — and reunited a woman with the engagement ring that slipped off her finger and tumbled down a sewer grate, this time outside a Midtown bar, police said Saturday.
Two neighborhood coordination officers received an urgent email from the distressed, and so-far unidentified woman — who apparently knew to reach out through Midtown North’s website — around 1:30 p.m. Friday, saying that her ring fell down the vent outside the Latitude Bar on Eighth Avenue near West 48th Street the night before.
The pair, Officers Sean Hall and Luis Lara Saavedra — along with the department’s Emergency Services Unit and the FDNY — went to the scene and managed to retrieve the diamond ring, police said.
The woman was reunited with her ring around 9:30 p.m. Friday night, cops said.
“It’s the first engagement ring we recovered in 2019,” NYPD Midtown North said in a tweet. “NCO’s along with ESU & FDNY were able to retrieve the ring. Sound familiar? Well this time we gave it back at the scene in lieu of the @TheEllenShow.”
Back on Nov. 30, John Drennan had proposed to Daniella Anthony, his girlfriend of 10 years, in Central Park during the British couple’s trip to New York City.
But roughly seven hours later, the ring slipped off Anthony’s finger at the Crossroads of The World and fell eight feet down into a sidewalk grate.
Officers tried to no avail to retrieve the ring that night, but returned the next day and and found the ring.
They were reunited with the sparkler during an emotional moment on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
