One way or another, the Yankees will get some clarity on their Sonny Gray saga Monday.
The Reds and Yankees have a trade for the pitcher on the table, sources confirmed to The Post’s Dan Martin, but it is reportedly contingent on Gray agreeing to a contract extension in Cincinnati, with the negotiating deadline sometime on Monday, according to MLB Network.
If Gray and the Reds are able to come to terms on a new deal — he currently has just one year left — the trade is expected to be finalized with the Yankees set to receive second-base prospect Shed Long and a compensatory draft pick.
If the right-handed pitcher and the Reds cannot reach a deal by the deadline, the Yankees could turn elsewhere for a trade that general manager Brian Cashman has made no secret about wanting since the offseason began.
Gray posted a 4.90 ERA last season with the Yankees, a number that spiked to 6.98 while pitching in the Bronx, but Cashman has said that both sides could benefit from a change of scenery. The Reds’ pitching coach is Derek Johnson, who was Gray’s pitching coach at Vanderbilt.
Should a deal fall apart with the Reds, the Padres, Brewers, Rangers, Braves, A’s and Giants could be potential landing spots.
