A retired firefighter in New Jersey was arrested for stealing artifacts from a local museum and selling the goods on eBay, a report said Monday.
Paul Avery — who rakes in an annual pension of nearly $130,000 — allegedly took items from the John T. Brennan Fire Museum in Bayonne, according to NJ.com.
The 64-year-old Avery stole “several thousand dollars” worth of items from the museum to hawk online, the website said.
Avery worked at the museum, painting and building cabinets. He allegedly took items that were in storage.
A Bayonne fire captain who runs the museum believes that Avery began stealing items from them in 2016. Four items including three helmets were recovered by police.
Avery retired in 2017 and receives an annual pension of $129,813, the website said.
