Police on Thursday announced the arrest of a Bronx father in connection with the death of his 8-month-old son.
Augustin Tinnin’s mother returned home March 22 to find her son — who was being watched by his dad, Claude Tinnin, 20 — unresponsive in his crib in the Rutgers Houses on the Lower East Side. The baby was found face-down with multiple blankets on top of him, police sources said.
The mother called 911 and the baby, who was not dead yet, was brought to an area hospital by ambulance, put on a ventilator and was pronounced dead the next day. His dad was charged with assault and violating an order of protection.
The father’s arrest was only announced Thursday morning after the medical examiner ruled the death a homicide, police said.
The Bronx dad is currently on Rikers Island and could be facing upgraded charges from the district attorney, cops said.
