McDonald’s All-American game full of New York, NJ stars

New York City will have multiple representatives in the prestigious McDonald’s All-American game for the first time in nine years.

Consensus five-star prospects Cole Anthony and Precious Achiuwa were selected for the showcase, along with New Jersey’s Bryan Antoine, Scottie Lewis and Kahlil Whitney. The game will be played March 27 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

Neither player, however, attends school locally. Anthony, the son of former Knick Greg Anthony, transferred to Oak Hill Academy (Va.) this year after three years at Archbishop Molloy in Queens. Achiuwa attends prep powerhouse Montverde Academy (Fla).

Back in 2010, Doron Lamb and JayVaughn Pinkston made the game. Since, though, the city has had only three players selected for it.

Both the 6-foot-2 Anthony, from the Upper West Side, and The Bronx’s Achiuwa are uncommitted. Anthony, the top-ranked point guard in this class, is down to North Carolina, Oregon, Notre Dame, Wake Forest, Miami and Georgetown. The 6-9 Achiuwa, whose older brother God’sgift went to St. John’s, is being recruited by North Carolina, Kansas, Memphis, Florida State, UConn and the Red Storm. Both are expected to decide sometime in the spring.

Arizona, Duke, Florida, Kentucky and Villanova all have a pair of committed prospects in the game.
